Central Plaza rises 373.9 metres and 78 storeys at 18 Harbour Road, on the Wan Chai waterfront. Ryoden Development, Sino Land and Sun Hung Kai Properties finished it in August 1992, to a design by Dennis Lau and Ng Chun Man. The tower is triangular, a decision taken so that a fifth more of the office area would face the harbour. Thirty nine lifts serve it, with a sky lobby on the 46th floor, and a four bar neon clock on the roof changes colour every fifteen minutes.
There are no shops at the base. The podium is a 90,000 sq ft landscaped garden with a fountain and trees. The first level is a public thoroughfare carrying three pedestrian bridges, so you reach the tower on a walkway rather than a pavement.
Exhibition Centre station is 350 metres away, four minutes on foot, on the East Rail line. Wan Chai station on the Island line is 390 metres, five minutes, by Exit A5. Regus lets furnished rooms here from one person to more than twenty, on a three month minimum. A room for one is HK$5,200 a month. A room for four is 112 sq ft and HK$20,800, and a room for ten is 310 sq ft and HK$52,000. A seat on the coworking floor is HK$4,000.
There is no retail in the podium, so lunch is at the convention centre hotels by elevated walkway, or south on Lockhart Road. Above ten people the suite carries one price.
