Who The Garden Are

The Garden opened in 2019 in Lai Chi Kok and has run from the same floor since. It is independent.

The floor holds 24 private rooms of 140 to 310 square feet, a twelve person meeting room and shared space, with room for 87 people. Members rate it 4.9 out of 5 on Google.

Where They Are In Hong Kong

The building is 13 storeys and was finished in 1970 as a factory block. It is registered with the Hang Cheong Factory Building at number 1 as one complex. Floors are about 8,850 square feet each, gross. There is one passenger lift and two cargo lifts, which an office tower would not give you.

Wing Ming Street is a working street in the Cheung Sha Wan industrial area. There is a canteen at street level in the Hang Cheong block next door, and an Esso station and a Circle K within 135 metres.

Lai Chi Kok station Exit B1 is about six minutes away, bringing you out on Tai Nam West Street. Castle Peak Road is 130 metres off, with a beef brisket shop at number 524 and a bakery at 500. The MCL Cheung Sha Wan cinema is 220 metres away and D2 Place is under 500 metres.

What The Spaces Are Like

The floor is a converted factory floor, simple rather than polished, with a lounge, a pantry and micro-roasted coffee. Most of the private rooms have a window. Staff are on site.

Every room comes with furniture, 24 hour access and air conditioning, the lounge, the pantry and the coffee.

The Garden is very good at three things:

**Air conditioning that stays on all night.** Each private room has its own unit. In most Hong Kong industrial conversions the landlord's central air stops in the evening. Here the cooling runs around the clock, like the access.

**Lockable studios from 140 to 310 square feet.** There are 24 of them, for two to six people. If you make, photograph, pack or store anything, the room is yours and the door locks.

**Classes in the space.** The Garden runs floral art, handcraft, latte art, pour-over coffee, photography and tea making sessions on its own floor. That is how members meet each other.

What The Garden Costs

A seat in a private office is HK$1,614 a month. A room for four is HK$5,800 a month, which in Lai Chi Kok buys a lockable studio with a window and its own air conditioner.

Coworking space is HK$1,750 a month per person, with the lounge, the coffee and the classes.

The meeting room seats twelve and is booked by the hour on top of the rent.

Contracts run from three months, rather than the three year lease a conventional office needs. The deposit is two months and the notice period is three months.

Who The Garden Suits

The Garden suits small businesses that need a lockable room rather than a shared floor. It is one floor in Lai Chi Kok.

That covers a lot of people. Founders, freelancers, makers, photographers, online retailers and tutors, in teams of one to ten. What they share is wanting their own door and their own air conditioning.
