Who Springboard Are

Springboard started in Hong Kong in 1999 and has traded ever since from the same Wan Chai address. The legal name is Springboard Pacific Co. Ltd, and the company is independent and privately held.

There is one centre, and it is in Wan Chai. The company describes itself as a boutique business centre built on personal service rather than scale. It also sells back office work alongside the space: company formation, company secretary, accounting, bookkeeping and HR administration.

For a tenant, that means 27 years of trading in one building, and one supplier for the office and the paperwork. If you are opening your first Hong Kong company, that is fewer people to chase.

Where They Are In Hong Kong

One address: 6/F, Luk Kwok Centre, 72 Gloucester Road, Wan Chai. It sits on the north side of the district, where the government towers and the convention centre are.

Luk Kwok Centre was finished in 1989 and has 13 office floors, about 89,635 square feet in all. Floors are small: a whole floor is about 6,895 square feet, with 8 feet 11 inches of headroom. Four passenger lifts and two cargo lifts serve the building, which is Grade A and held by a single owner. The Gloucester Luk Kwok hotel is in the same building. Tenants can use the hotel facilities and its free shuttle bus to the Airport Express station.

At street level, the hotel entrance is on Jaffe Road. A connecting door runs through to the office entrance, and there is a covered drop off for cars and taxis. The office entrance itself is on Gloucester Road.

Wan Chai MTR Exit A5 is three minutes away by the footbridge towards the Immigration Department. Two elevated walkways, one of them covered, run from beside the building to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, ten minutes away on foot.

What The Spaces Are Like

The floor is small, with a staffed reception rather than an atrium. The fit-out is conventional and professional rather than designed: executive offices for directors, team rooms for two to twelve, meeting rooms and a reception that answers your phone.

Springboard is very good at providing:

**The back office in the same room as the office.** Company formation, company secretary, accounting, bookkeeping and HR administration are done in house. An overseas founder can incorporate, open the office and file the accounts through one team.

**Rooms shaped like a real company.** Team rooms take two to twelve people, and an executive office for the manager or the director can sit inside the same suite. Growing means changing rooms, not changing address.

**The convention centre on the doorstep.** Two elevated walkways run to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, ten minutes away on foot. That suits companies whose year is built around trade fairs.

What Springboard Costs

A seat in a private office is HK$4,200 a month at Luk Kwok Centre, and a room for four is HK$16,800 a month. Coworking space is sold on the same floor at HK$5,800 per person per month.

The minimum term is three months, rather than the three year lease a conventional office needs. The deposit is two months and the notice period is three months.

Who Springboard Suits

Springboard suits overseas companies setting up in Hong Kong who want the office and the company paperwork from one supplier. The floor is small, so a team above twelve will outgrow it.
