Who Banyan Workspace Are

Banyan Workspace opened in 2019 on the Quarry Bay waterfront. It is independent and family run.

It holds one site, about 6,000 square feet, and has stayed there since. Members rate the centre 5.0 out of 5 on Google, from 123 reviews.

For a tenant, that means the owners are in the building. The fit-out, the events and the answer to a request all come from the same small team.

Where They Are In Hong Kong

One building: Suite 1204, Eastern Harbour Centre, 28 Hoi Chak Street, Quarry Bay.

Eastern Harbour Centre is 18 storeys, finished in 1992, built by Tai Cheung as a godown and let as offices since. It is graded B. Floors are large for the district at about 20,011 square feet, and the building runs to 319,216 square feet in total. There are three passenger lifts and four cargo lifts.

Ceilings are high because of the industrial origin: 15 feet 9 inches from the third floor up. Air conditioning is a separate unit for each tenant.

Street level is a loading bay and car parking, 16 spaces on the ground floor and 50 more above. For lunch, Hoi Chak Street has Grotto at number 19, Rasa at number 7 and Kong Food at number 3.

Quarry Bay station Exit C is five minutes away, about 400 metres, on the Island line and the Tseung Kwan O line. Quarry Bay Park runs along the water beside Hoi Chak Street, and King's Road and Taikoo Place lie the other way.

What The Spaces Are Like

The space is fitted to a residential standard rather than an office one. There is a double-height library with a spiral staircase, a lounge looking at Victoria Harbour, high ceilings and sun in the rooms. It was designed by Lauren Bullen of S.Lo Designs.

Every membership carries 24 hour access, cable and wifi, a receptionist, telephone answering, office cleaning, a shared kitchen, unlimited electricity, storage and administration support.

Banyan Workspace is very good at two things:

**A podcast studio and a photoshoot studio on site.** Both are in the building and members use them. For a team that makes content every week, the studio is down the corridor rather than across town. Brands hire the centre for shoots and launches too, so the rooms are built to be seen.

**Giving away two per cent of membership revenue.** It goes to four local non-profit partners, and members can join the programmes. A company that reports on community work gets it as part of the rent.

What Banyan Workspace Costs

A seat in a private office is HK$3,678 a month. A room for four is HK$12,700 a month. The biggest suites hold about thirty people.

Coworking space is HK$3,200 a month per person, with the library, the lounge and the events included.

Meeting rooms are booked by the hour on top of the rent.

Contracts run from three months, rather than the three year lease a conventional office needs. The deposit is two months and the notice period is three months.

Who Banyan Workspace Suits

Banyan Workspace suits people for whom the room itself is part of the pitch. It is one floor in Quarry Bay.
